I wanted to drop out of school many times myself. Stay strong.
Social anxiety can cause these feelings, which can also lead to severe depression,
http://www.socialanxietyinstitute.org/ds...
if not you could be suffering from Generalized Anxiety
Disorder..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/general_anx...
There is hope; I've been there, and still am there, it is a long, hard struggle. I recommend
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cognitive_b... worked best for me, with mild anti-anxiety meds. I suffered from social anxiety for over 15 years. I've tried individual therapy, and group therapy and studied psychology for 10 years, as a profession, but also with the hope to cure myself.
Depending on your comfort level, you could go to a psychologist that practices CBT and specializes in anxiety disorders, seek a group therapy, or create one. Usually those that do attend the group therapy are a bit more high functioning because as you know, it can be difficult to speak in a group.
Another idea is to see if there are any local research studies being conducted that you could participate in.
The program that finally worked the best for me is this one: http://www.socialanxiety.us/findinghelp.... and I was lucky enough to have a structured behavioral group to go along with it. Sometimes the people that actually attend this program come back home and form groups.
I recommend a mild anti-anxiety med in addition to CBT therapy.
Any questions, let me know ... I can't tell you how much this has improved my life!

Ok....antipressants can be dangerous for young ppl under the age of 17 to take. As for medications that can help with anxiety and depression...I have had success with Effexor XR and Trazodone. Both are used to treat both symptoms you mentioned. I have been diagnosed with Clinical Depression and SAD (Social anxiety disorder). The Effexor and Trazodone have allowed me to function again. I am in sales so having anxiety about being in social situations really wasn't working out real well. It sounds to me like you need to speak to a professional about the issues you are having. Be sure to do a lot of research and get educated about the different medications available on the market right now. Cymbalta is supposed to be good for treating both the emotional & physical symptoms of depression. Also be active in your treatment and don't be afraid to seek help. You can get help and live a normal life. I am!

i can relate to just about everything you said.
don't let it control your life i understand what it feels like to be afraid of what people will think but you can't let it control you. the only way to live a happy life is to let go and stop worrying about what other people think because their going to judge you no matter what you do so you might as well be happy and just be yourself.
judgement is a fear we have of ourselves.
maybe you could talk to a counsellor but please don't take any drugs, if you want to know why read this book.

I think the best thing for you to do is socialize more, you need to meet people and make friends, we are social creatures and it's as necessary to us as food. That's how we learn and grow and reproduce. Get a grip you need to get past the phobia of embarrassing yourself, learn to laugh at yourself and move on we all do stupid things. Don't take yourself to seriously no one else does.

I think that you will be wasting your life and the time and effort you've already put towards school and that you should consider talking to a therapist or your school counsellor to see if you can't talk your problems through -- it may be that you need medication.

I had the same exact prob. I went on a drug called Celexa. It worked wonders. I wouldn't be working if it wasn't for it. Go talk to you doctor about the possibility of going on medication. It will change your life, I guarantee it!
