You can buy a "PhD" from a variety of online "universities" but these are WORTHLESS.

A PhD is based on original research and carries with it the reputation of your dissertation advisior, your school, your department, and your own work.

Simply buying one so that you can put it on your CV will not impress anyone, because ANY job that you might hope to get that benefit from having one will immediately know that the so-called PhD that you bought isn't worth even the paper that it is printed on.

You would never even get an interview with a crappy-bought PhD. They would throw your resume in trash if they saw it.

Legally no, but there are many students (including many Middle Easterners in the UK) who do so regularly. It's called cheating.

Some Chinese do it too, they hire someone else to pretend to be them and go through University for them (especially those involved with organised crime).

They get them from respectable Universities... they often don't do it for the degree, but for the visa to live in the UK or the US, their double studies while they do their dirty business.

A few people have been caught in Oxford for this practice, it's very hard to prove though.

Never trust a rich man with a PhD. Always give him an interview on his subject, to make sure he knows it.

And who wants to hire a PhD anyway? I think they're just geeks.

You could buy one, but it would have little or no value, past the fun you could have by changing your surname to 'Colossus' to make your driver's license read 'Dr Colossus'. Because when you get pulled over with that, the cops will love it. Totally.
