Okay so this is my story.

I am 20 years old and am a Full-Time business student at my local community college working part-time at the local grocery store. Everyday all I can think about how great it would be to have a home with extra land to build a dog breeding/training business. I'm to the point where I get depressed because I feel like this is my calling and this is what I would like to do with my life but it seems so un-attainable. I want to have a place like a farm but instead of a farm with cows and horses I want to have it for breeding and bringing/training dogs. I don't know what kind of money is possible to be made through this type of career but I'm at the point where as long as I could afford a decent home and enjoy life I would be happy. How do I make this un-attainable dream attainable? PLEASE HELP ME!

First of all this dream is not unobtainable. What can you do right now to get your foot in the door? Are you saving up for this business venture. Everyday you need to be doing something to get yourself closer to your goal. For instance, Buying a large farm might be out of reach for the moment. You might need to rent one till you can get enough capital. This is an ideal opportunity for you to build up your assetts. For instance, you can't afford a farm, however you may be able to afford a flat. This way you have an appreciating assett that gives you leverage for the business.
In these kind of ventures you need to make things happen for yourself. Be determined and self motivating. Get a business plan going. How much will start up costs be? What are ongoing weekly costs? What kind of cash flow will you need to maintain these costs? ect ect...... Speak to people already in the business and learn from them. You may be able to get a job in the field. This will get you closer to your dream. I'll stop my waffling now Best of luck!!!!!

Perhaps you can start with dog training, which doesn't really require a lot of land. You can offer services to other people to train their dogs in their own homes. That way, you will not need an amount of land since you will do it outside your backyard. Once you save enough money because of your dog training business, then perhaps you can acquire a small lot where you can start your dog breeding business.

All large businesses have started as small businesses, even the multinationals. So no matter how un-attainable it may seem, just look for possibilities to start small, then as the business earns profits, you can continually make it grow until it turns into the enterprise that you have always dreamed about.

Find out if you have a local chapter of IBI Global (www.ibiglobal.com) near you. This is an organization that helps entrepreneurs achieve their business dreams. The local meetings are usually at least once a week. Entrepreneurs like you get together sharing their hopes/dreams and network to help each other out...problem solving, advice on how to build a business plan, find funding, other resources, etc. It can be very helpful and inspiring.

There is a quarterly national meeting that is wonderful, but expensive. But even if you never go to the national meeting, you might find the local chapters a great place to start working towards your dream.

I am no authority on dog training, but I know a lady in a small town where i live who started a business housing stray cats and claimed a grant from the government to provide housing for them. Maybe this idea could give you a mental push to create an idea to house and train dogs, and fullfill your dream. Good luck

Find a business that is very similar to what you would like to own. Contact the owner, tell them your interest and then ask them to a luncheon so you can ask them questions about their experience's getting their business started and advise on what to avoid. Also contact SBA and attend some of their workshops to learn ABC's of starting a business. Check with your chamber of commerce for more info. Good luck. I too love animals.!!!!

First off, go work at a place similar to what you want. It's everyone's dream to have some land and do what they want. Very view achieve it. That said, if you're determined you can accomplish it. But you certainly need to get into that kind of work 1st.

talk to your advisor and they can help point you in the right direction. and I have to say don't breed dogs when there are dogs that have to be put to sleep in shelters every day because they can't find families.
