I often wondered why they don't just inject the prisoners with truth serum, until I decided to research it a bit. It turns out that there is no real truth serum. There are certain things that can increase the resistance of the interrogated subject, but they can also highten the risk of unreliability. While under the influence of a truth drug, prisoners tend to mix fact with fantasy.
Hypnotism doesn't work on everybody, and I doubt it'd work on a highly stressed prisoner who'd most likely be trying their best not to satisfy the needs of the interrogator either.
I don't believe torture is right, though... It just doesn't seem like there's a different way. =(

Hypnotism is not a proven science. The victim could just pretend and feed them false information.
Drugs react differently to all people. If an interrogator gave drugs to someone and it reacted badly, they could die, go into a como, lose all memory, or a number of different things. Also giving drugs alters their state of mind, and the interragators want to make sure they get the accurate information.

Many drugs and serums are not fully proven to be affective and sometimes cause a negative reaction with brain cells and dendritic connections. I am not sure about hypnotism.
I must say that I am against torturing people for information because I believe it also leads to false information.

hypnotism only works on the willing, they do use drugs but conclusions are inaccurate because of the subjects altered state of mind, the problem with torture is that the subject will admit things that they have no knowledge about just to stop the pain.

Because torture works the best and interragators that use those methods don't care about whether they will harm the victim or not.

why torture, it's like trying to pour gasoline on a fire to get it to go out. violence doesn't solve violence, but I'm one of those crazy people who doesn't believe in war.
it's usually crazy to believe in something that the majority doesn't.
