I would avoid, like the plague, any repair facility that quoted under $2,000. Some other important questions would be: What is the warranty on both the parts and labor? Are the parts going to be OE, better, updated aftermarket components, discount parts store? Is the technician working on my vehicle ASE certified in Engine Repair? Does the facility belong to any service organizations such as ASE (National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence), ASA (Automotive Service Association), AAA (Automobile Association of America)? If the answers to these questions are satisfactory, then you can pursue cost questions, because if this repair is not done right, the price really doesn't matter, and this is a big job.

my friend I own a 1999 Seville STS. Head gaskets blew at 82K. Most reputable repair shops will want to replace the engine, not repair it. It would run up a higher labor cost bill for them to replace the gaskets. I paid total of $3400. $2400 for a 20k mile engine and $900 for labor. Warranty on the engine is 12 mos. It's been 3 months since the engine was installed and i've been pushing it hard. A couple of tune ups were needed after installation, which were free of charge of course.
