If you do happen to take an IQ test on line, try to find the mean before you gauge yourself against others. After finding the mean, look for the standard deviation. We will take tickle uk for example. First we look at the average which is about 115. We first assume that this is inflated. A reason for this inflation would be that those below IQ 70 are not intelligent enough to use the internet and would not understand this gauge of intelligence, which is a possible reason for the inflated mean. After finding the standard deviation, which is probably around 20 because it is an online test, gauge your score versus the mean and standard deviation, i.e. you score a 165, the mean is 115. There is a 50 point differential. Divide the differential by the standard deviation. You are then 2 and 2/3 standard deviations above the mean. Covert this to a realistic number using the standard deviation. The mean for professional tests is about 100. The standard deviation is 15. 15 times 2 and 2/3 is 40. Add this to 100. This is a more realistic number. If, however, you score a 168, which is the ceiling, you cannot convert, because you must assume you could score higher if it could gauge a higher IQ.
