this guy owns his own computer business he got it for me and installed it, i payed £40 for it

but when I right click on my pc it only shows 1.8 ghz why? is he lying?

Nope. In all probability it is what your Mainboard/motherboard's BIOS detected and set it at. If you wanted to get the full speed, you may have to go into the BIOS change it yourself. Also too the mainboard/motherboard may be at it top end for speed. You need to get a higher speed mainboard/motherboard to take advantage of the processor's speed. All that speed means is that it can max out at 3GHz. Unless the mainboard/motherboard is a 3GHz board, ain't gonna happen.

The name of the CPU is Sempron 3000+, the latter indicates AMD’s assessment of equivalent Pentium 4 MHz. It runs at 1800 MHz.

You are lucky why when I was a boy I would have killed to have 1.8 ghz I had to live with only having a typwriter & I would put it in front of the TV and pretend to download nauty pics.

He just assumed, by Sempron 3000, it meant 3GHz. It's actually 1.8GHz. So, he's not lying, he's just misinformed.
