I have an area by my driveway the ground is very hard and full of rocks. I would like to rent a rototiller and loosen up the soil so I can plant there. I'm not a big person and don't know much about power tools. Help??

My wife is 5' 3" and 62 years old, and she used a rototiller to till up what was to become our back yard at our new house. The area was full of rocks close to where the house was to be built, and the ground was definitely hard, and she went right through it. Oh, yeah, she sweated some, but who wouldn't. And she got the job done while her crippled husband looked on. But, I did take one or two passes across the soon-to-be backyard just to see how it felt, and even this one-legged "old man" (55 years old) did it just fine. So, a little sweat? Yeah. Possible? Definitely. God Bless you.

They are not hard to use at all. Just one thing to keep in mind if the rototiller has the tines (blades) in the rear please be sure to keep your feet clear. Also since you are trying to break up an area with alot of rock be careful that the machine does not throw stones. May want to ask a neighbor for help if you are still unsure but they are pretty simple to operate. Good Luck

I'm 60, and own a Troy Built Horse. I've tilled for 40 years. I am 5'4" tall, and weigh 110#. The only warning I would give you is make sure you have someone to tell you how to use it. They can get away from you, and cause a GREAT deal of damage.
