All the special effects would be alot more real looking, but it is a classic. I don't know if today we could match the actors or singers. It would be like trying to remake Gone With The WInd. It could be good, but never as good as the original...

They could do a remake which looked spectacular but that doesn't necessarily mean it would be a good remake. It is a dangerous thing to reamke a classic film and it rarely pays off (not that it stops them with the various remakes on the way). It would need quality casting and I cannot really think of any established stars who would do the job credit. They probably would skip the songs as musicals don't really reach the heights they once did or rewrite them into terrible modern versions.
In conclusion. Yes they could do a remake just not a great one.

No, I think a re-make with advanced technology would kill it, just like the final 3 star wars films killed the originals. The Wizard of Oz is a classic because of the time it was made and the way it was made. It shouldn't be re-made in my opinion.

I think with classics like that...Hollywood probably won't remake it! Movies like The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, My Fair Lady, and so forth became INSTANT classics!

I agree with everyone else, you can't make that film better, it is a classic not to be messed with. The corny style (then was really good, but today considered corny) adds to the nature of the film.
When my 5 year old grand daughter saw it on t.v a month ago we went out and hunted the original down, if there had been a new version I would still have purchased the original.
Same as Peter Pan, and Snow White we bought the originals.
Apart from that it brings back memories.

They have the ability to make a technically brilliant remake...yes. Will it have the emotionally resonance of the original.?..I doubt it.
Part of the reason I suspect has to do with the time capsule that comes with OZ. Those of us who saw it years ago...are reminded of a time when life was simpler...more wholesome. Some of us anyway. And viewing takes us back in time...to that time...when magic existed in movies...and in our lives.
We wondered at the flying monkeys and it really seemed as if in OZ...flight was actually possible.
While not a fan of anything with Judy Garland I recognize that Oz is a classic for them. Good luck to those who would remake it ...and to those who would see it.

I think they will ruin it if they do a remake of this. Its a classic Film.
Look what happened when the done a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp played the crazy man part extremely well but they changed the oompa loompas. I loved those little guys!!

The Wizard of Oz is magic. I don't think there should be a remake, they might murder it. Maybe Tim Burton could do it.

Have you not noticed that all the remakes of old movies tend to be really bad? War of the Worlds, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the Wickerman, I know they're not exactly the same but directors should leave classics as they are.

much of the beauty found in the wizard of oz, stems from it's inherent cheesiness. sure, a remake would be great to look at, but would the opening be in sepia? do you really want to see a real tornado, and what would they do to the witches? I shudder to think.
