I believe that a good book to read is a book written by Chris Claremont, and the creator of the Star Wars trilogy, George Lucas. It is called Shadow Star. It has fairies in it, brownies, Malevioy, firedrakes, dragons, and other etc. , it has a good story line, and is somewhere between 190-500 pages long, but maybe more, and starts with a book called Shadow Moon. It can be a good book if you like the whole good vs. Evil thing.

Lord of the Rings - J.R.R. Tolkien
Anything by R.A. Salvatore (D&D books...faeries, dwarves, drow)
Stardust; Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman (Both excellent books. He's a great writer. Try American Gods, too. Don't remember how long the books are.)
War of the Oaks....It might be called War for the Oaks. I can't remember. Very good book! I read it some years ago and find myself thinking about the characters once in awhile. Don't remember how long it is.

Try the Bitterbynde Trilogy from Cecilia Dart-Thornton, a bit difficult to read (as said by critics, not by me) but really good fantasy books.
1-The Ill-Made Mute
2-The Lady of the Sorrows
3- The Battle of Evernight

If you havent already read any of J.R.R Tolkein's work, I would highly reccomend that you do so. All of his books have fantasic characters and plots, I think anyone with a taste for fantasy will enjoy them. In addition to the well known "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, Tolkien also wrote The Silmarillion, which is a sort of history of Middle Earth. I would reccomend that as a good one to start off with, but I must warn you it feels alot like a history book at times. So whatever tickles your fancy, I hope youll try them both. Good luck!

I just finished reading Patricia A. McKillip's The Tower at Stony Wood. It is a really great story (but challenging because it hops back and forth). There is magic, witches, and dragons. Lovely.
And naturally, Harry Potter is amazing.
