I've been a terrific fan of motocross and offroad racing/riding since I was 10 yrs old, I am now 40 and I've never owned or riden a bike (I rode a mini bike a few times, the kind with a lawnmower engine) my question is, what is a good starter bike, a 125 or do you think I should start out smaller like an 85 or 65 or maybe even a pit bike like sikk or pitsterpro? p.s. I'm 6' 0" and 170 lbs. thanks for your answer.

Go to a cycle sales and sit on the bikes and talk to the pros--buy one you feel comfortable on and ask about pros and cons. My 5 year old grandson has a Yamaha 50 with training wheels!!

Really the motorcycles for anyone your age holiday down into 2 classes. Play motorcycles (path motorcycles) and race motorcycles. Take Honda for example. You have a CRF150R that's a race motorcycle and a CRF150F that's a play or path motorcycle. Your pageant motorcycles will probably be water cooled and your play/path motorcycles will probably be air cooled, however the variations do not quit there. It is a well option to inform them aside even though. Basically a contest motorcycle will probably be a lot quicker, a lot lighter, and feature a lot larger suspension. It can even fee a lot more than the path motorcycles. It isn't feasible, inside a fair finances, to make a play/path motorcycle paintings practically as good as a real pageant motorcycle. You quite simply ought to appear at what kind of using you intend to do. If you're simply cruising the paths and no longer doing any enormous jumps a path motorcycle is satisfactory. If you intend to race MX or woods you wish to have a truly race motorcycle.

It really depends on the power you want. I know you are just starting but as long as you are not stupid on it you can jump right onto a big bike. A 250 two-stroke will have great power and a really fast acceleration but can be uncontrollable (i started on a yz250) I would suggest jumping right on a 450. four-strokes are easier to maintain and to con troll and you will love that power that you can use to show off with. I am a Yamaha man myself but my friend just got a crf450x to start out on. It is fast with great power but easy to ride. And I also suggest you buy used, because most likely you are going to lay it over a lot and you dont want to scratch up your brand new $6,000 dollar machine.

Yamaha YZ 125 , as tall as you are it will fit you you, they have more power than you will most likely ever use, most of the pros and super x riders run 125 or 250's ,stick with the smaller ones they can hurt you plenty, my 19 year old son rides a 125 and it performs plenty good for him, he clears 90 ft table tops on it

I think you should try a 4 stroke dirtbike instead of a 2 stroke because you can baby it more when getting used to it, it doesn't have the crazy acceleration like you need to use in a 2 stroke to keep from fouling the pistons. As far as size you can go as big as a 250 with a 4 stroke because as I said you can baby it, and you wont get bored of it when you advance as fast.

i would suggest a yamaha ttr-230. these are excellent starter bikes, and most i believe come with electric start. poser is good, and suspension is forgiving... check them out at
