Most are filmed 2 - 8 weeks. That's actual filming. Pre-production could be anywhere from a couple months to ten years. Post-production is usually completed within 2 months of filming completion. Then a movie may have to set on a shelf until the studio is ready to release it, i.e. a movie complete and ready to go to theatres may have been completed in Febuary. But the studio doesn't want it to compete with the big summer blockbusters so it'll sit-on-the-shelf until, say, October until it's released. On the other hand, ABC released the first post-911 movie only 5 months after the actual attack. Once a movie gets a go, it usually happens pretty fast, given all the factors involved. The 2 main things that slow a production down are budget problems and producer/director disagreements. Sometimes, when a movie is complete, the studio and/or film makers can't find a 'distributor' to actually release it for them, so they have to shop it around for a couple years sometimes. Example, Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses was completed, I believe in 2002, but took another 3 years just to get a distributor to release it.

It can take 2 years for a perfessional film! At the moment I'm making a 30 minute one and this is how long it'll take...
1 month - script writeing
1 month - post - production
1 month - filming
1 month - editing
1 month - music and copys of film made
then the premier.
It takes a long time.

My guess would be two to three years from the time the script is completed by the author. So a movie coming out right now was probably thought up in 2004/ 2005. Pretty cool to think about! Same with video games.

Anywhere from six to eight weeks, depending on the budget or the scope of the movie. A cheap movie is as little as three weeks, and a bigger, more expensive, epic movie can take 3-4 months.
Then there's also pre-production and post-production (editing) which adds a couple of months each side.

It just depends...For bigger budget films or sci-fi action, it can be a year or more when you count all the pre- and post- production. For a movie with less efects, probably around 9 months to a year. I know for animated movies, they can take up to 5 years to make.
