First of all, was he the one that actually did the deed? With that, was the Government going for the bigger fish? There are many variables and you must keep in mind, all the Government has is the account of people, there is not much evidence compared to a similar case here in the U.S.

It seems to me that sentence is pretty standard as I think of the cases in N America.

It is frustrating when sentencing is not what we think it should be. There is so much "bargaining" going on all the time

Maybe because of the amount of avilable evidence was insufficent to convict of a higher charge.

Maybe because the govt offered a plea deal to keep the case out of the spotlitght.

Maybe because he flipped on someone else, and got consideration at sentencing as part of the deal.

There are many possible reasons. Not all the facts are there.
