Actually, in nature, the conflict between a bear and a cougar is relatively rare and confrontations happen mainly because of food rights or if either animal has young to protect. In either case, one of the animals (usually the offender in the food case or the defender in the protect the young case) will back off and retreat without bloodshed - a display of strength is all it needs.
If it ever came to blows, the bear is bruit strength and the cougar is speed and agility. It would be a relatively even match and the outcome unpredictable.
I've provided the link to a video which shows a typical conflict between a bear that wandered too close and a cougar who is defending her young. I also provided one where the two duke it out over unknown circumstances.
Added: I also found one with a cougar cub who took on a bear cub.

Bears are awesome fighters. They have huge claws and massive strength and they are very fast. The cougar would cause injury but could not overcome a bear.
