Partially. It's true that shaving causes hair to regrow thicker. Thicker hair requires thicker pores.
However, tweezing (plucking) does not cause thick re-growth or enlarged pores. Essentially what you're doing is just pulling the hair out from the root which doesn't cause enlargement of the pores. It does cause the elasticity in your skin to fade though--it's because of the harsh pulling.
As for waxing, it's harsh on the skin. It definitely removes hair (if it's long enough) but it also removes the top layer of skin, which is quite painful. The pain is probably the real hang up...especially if you have sensitive skin.
Depending on what part of the body you want to remove hair from you can also try depilatory cream....I find it doesn't work for me, but it works fine for my older sister.
A while back I went to this place called Ziba--they do threading. It's another form of hair removal. It's quite painless and for me the best way. You can thread all over the body too. The hair won't grow back for at least 2 weeks and it doesn't damage the skin's elasticity. An added bonus is the hair grows back thinner and fewer after sometime. They do threading in a lot of places now. You can look for it on line or in the phone book.

shaving cuts the hairs close to the skin where they are the thickest, so when it grows it appears thicker and coarser. plucking and waxing however, damage the hair follicle when you pull the hair out, this causes the hair to grow back thinner and finer, the more you wax the less painful it is, and the results get better too.

I don't care what anyone tells you, once you remove hair it WILL grow back thicker and darker. It isn't an oldwive's tale but a sad lesson that I'll have to live with for the rest of my life. Once you start it is way too much upkeep unless you are talking about your legs or your arm pits. In that case, it's a hassle you'll have to live with.
