No worries, just go ahead and let the fuels mix.

GOOD QUESTION THOUGH!

That's one of the challenges for a manufacturer in designing an E85 vehicle. It's not enough for it to work for gasoline OR E85; it has to work with ANY possible mix of E0 through E85.

Say you have a 15 gallon tank and you tend to refill when you have 5 gallons left. The first time you buy E85, you have 5 gallons of gas and you're adding 10 gallons of E85 (which contains 1.5 gallons gas and 8.5 gallons ethanol.)
6.5 gallons gas + 8.5 gallons ethanol = 56% or E56.

Next time you fill up, you add 10 gallons E85 to your 5 gallons of E56, which gets you E75.

Next time, you can't find an E85 station so you fill up with gas. Now you have E25.

And the computer has to know how to adjust the fuel injection system to deal with that everytime. But don't worry, that is possible, and the computer does do that.

E85 Compatible

No. There is a sensor in the fuel lines that measures the ratio of gasoline to ethanol, so the computer can adjust for anything from pure gasoline to E85.

In some vehicles it helps if you have an almost empty tank before you fil with e85. The engine sensors have an easier time without an odd blend .

The answer is no, you don't. E85 means 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline. If you add it to regular gasoline, you just get more gasoline, less ethanol. So instead of E85 you end up with E80, E70, or whatever. Your engine sensor will see the difference and adjust accordingly.

No,you don't need to worry about it.The engine computer will make the necessary adjustments automatically.

Yes you do otherwise you will cause damage to the sensors in the engine.
