Estrella is like maybe spanish or latin for sol, I thought that it might be a neat name for our solar system. Thoughts?

Our star is named Sol, hence we live in the Solar (Sol) system.
If we lived in the star system with the star Shaula (lambda scorpii) as the center, the system would be known as the Shaulan system.
The central star, or at least the star our planet orbits, is what gives our star system its name.

The name of our solar system is THE SOLAR SYSTEM. The reason is because the Sun's name (among astromoners) is Sol... Therefore the only star system that you should call 'the Solar System' is ours. Any other star systems would be named after the star or stars they consist of. Of course, whoever lives there might disagree about the name.

Our solar system is called our "Solar System" with capital letters. There is no special name for it like LIL-2007, or anything like that.
You could start a movement of the people, however, to name it this year, if you wish. You should pick a realistic name that everyone will recognize as "us." I would look very seriously at a common name that will stick in everyones' minds... like
"YooHoo", or "HeyThere" and then dress it up like some of the stars identities such that you get a name that looks like:
YooHoo2008
HeyThere2008
ItsMe08
BlinkBlink2008
ThinkFast2010
Any of those should go over big with Astronomers who are always seeking to name something after themselves when a fantastic new discovery is made somewhere out there.
Many people here on Yahoo would support a real serious effort on your part to give our Solar System a real name.

The system itself has no name other than the Solar System, this name being derived from the name of the star(Sol).

I don't believe anybody has ever named our solar system since until recently it was the only one we knew about. I propose that we name it after our sun's name, Sol, and call it the Sol Solar System.

According to Dr. Aksnes, chairman of The International Astronomical Union (IAU,) our solar system can also be referred to as the Planetary System. Please note the capital letters P and S; the beginning letters should be capitalized, otherwise it could just refer to any planetary system orbiting around a star.
