I know maybe 3 successful adults who still have regular contact with people they knew in high school. That's it. I could not tell you one person's name from my High School class, and doubt most of my friends now could either.
Your education is what is important. If you are more than "plain vanilla" gifted, you probably don't have all that stimulating of a social life as it is. I went to college at 16 having skipped 2 grades early on. Best thing I ever did. College is great. You get to actually be a human being and use your mind instead of "just another brick in the wall" if you know what I mean.

Look at the classes you would take in your 9th grade year- for me, taking physics was worth spending an entire year in the 9th grade. Will you be behind other 10th graders in core classes? Is there an amazing 9th grade teacher in your school's curriculum? If you'll be behind in one class only, such as math, can you make it up over the summer?
If you won't be missing anything, by all means, skip the year.

If it's all about friends, then don't skip. High school is among the most harsh places anywhere. It probably would be better if you didn't skip a grade either. Anything would just be too sudden.

i wouldn't because your friends won't be with you and that sucks and if you stay in 9th grade it will be very easy for you think of it as a break for a year.
