School itself is a very historically liberal institution. 99% of teachers are liberals. I haven't even been in school for years, and I know this.

It takes a liberal to put up with the kids. A conservative would explode and point out how stupid pop culture is, but then the whole class would just laugh, not taking it seriously.

It's so true. Pop culture is pathetic. The kids that are "popular" are the ones with the lowest I.Q. It's confounding. So, it would take a liberal to put up with it. They never try to fix things. They just play along with all the weirdness of school, and the smart ones end up eeking out a learning, while the dumb ones just stay dumb and end up on the streets.

This really can't be helped. It would take all the funding in the world to turn it around. We would have to reduce our military to a defense-only concept, and route all the spare money into the schooling system. Why, even a vote to make uniforms mandatory in school failed by a landslide in my state. If we can't even get them to do that, there's not much we can hope for.

I am going to assume your question relates more to the University scene. Most elementary schools are very conservative in Public Education. My children have been in public schoos in Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee and Oklahoma and by and large the teachers I have come in contact with are religious and conversative. In fact, they are more conservative than I would necessarily like.

Honestly, college is one of those environments where you will be challenged by professors who have strong liberal or conservative positions and seem to think they have a bully pulpit in the classroom. The best prof's and teachers stick to teaching and engaging students to learn without foisting their own world view on those same students.

Alas, those sorts of teachers at the university level are probably something of a rarity.

But really, people have to learn to think for themselves and certainly by the time they are in college, they should have developed their own world view. And if not, well then Bob Jones University's doors are wide open.

The very nature of "public" education is liberal and if you are so concerned with censoring what others teach your children get more involved. But here are some other suggestions:
First of all get rid of all public schools and privatize them, then you can have complete control over your soon to be fascist children.
Then you can do a curriculum like the religious home-school lessons that completely rewrite or ignore major events and schools of thought like proven scientific theories, slavery, women's rights you know that minor stuff.

Then you can have these children grow up completely lacking in major critical thinking skills and missing huge chunks of their own history so that they can continue to have a myopic view of the world.
THEN YOU WILL HAVE A TRULY CONSERVATIVE EDUCATION SYSTEM
sounds awesome doesn't it?

What is the purpose of the schools, graduate drones who repeat without thinking for themselves or to teach others how to learn and instill within them the means to go beyond their teachers knowledge?
This subject is where we are heading in this country and people who pose questions such as this are already so indoctrinated as being more in line with Facist Youth of the 30s in Japan, Germany and Italy that they are a danger to everyone elses liberty in future.
Copmbine theri attude with the reoifgiouws fanatiacism of todays Zionist christians and you got unbridled Facism.
If anything this mental attitude mixed in with Christian bigotry and dogmas is quickly leading this country into a true Police state.
Education is feared by that type of people and what is feared most by them is that people who can think, reason out situations for themselves, if given enough knowledge, will not think just as they do and be out of their conrtrol.
Make no mistake, it is all about control , control of your minds.
Being too old and stupid to learn I know the difference between power freaks and people wanting to think for themselves.
There is no debate in this new facts only education, just indoctrination, they have all the answers and you should not question.
You go to school , especailly grade school, to learn how to learn and to get basics so that when one needs the critical thinkng skills in order to figure out complex problems you have the faculty to do so.
To learn is liberal.Dogma is for dogs and animals trained to follow without thinking.
Ever since this countrys foundings, at time of revolution most wanted British to win epecially souther portions and merchants all conservatives, the ability of the populace to think for themsleves has been under attack by those in power and if one is honest the churches also have almost always sided with the governments positon.
In education there is no libeal versus conservative until dogma and jingos of the ignorant are interjected into it , no matter the viewpoints all must be talked out using reasoning.By the same token it is a waste of time to argue with minds so indoctrinated they are beyond learning.
They are the true enemies of freedom and no pussyfooting around about it sidelined and treated as they should be, as nutcases.

Unfortunately, the American liberals have the schools (by schools I mean everything from elementary to post-secondary) by the throat. That is their last stronghold and where they don't preach "tolerance" and "understanding", rather intolerance towards anyone who does not believe what they do and they do not try to understand anyone else - rather they yell and scream at people who try to have a fair and civilized debate.

The American people can see through them, as evidenced by the Republican-controlled Congress from 1994 to 2007. That election is a different issue entirely.

When it comes to kicking liberals out of our schools - one thing will make that happen: a victory in Iraq. The liberals are so invested in defeat (i.e. the timetable to withdraw, let's "negotiate" with al Qaida, Murtha: "cut off funding!") that a victory in Iraq would spell political and ideological defeat for them here in the states.

I say take education out of the education system. People are not dumb enough yet to reject science fully. We need to teach out youth that earth doesn't exist and that we exist in a spirit world. Then they won't be huggin no trees or caring about no rat poison in pet food. or guns bein a big deal.

Turn back time, LOL. Seriously, by talking to your friends, family, colleagues, neighbors about conservative values, and hopefully convincing them to vote actual conservatives, or at least libertarians, into office. Hint: Bush is not a conservative.

You probably can't do much about "our schools", but you have some power over YOUR school. Go to school board meetings, find text books you want taught and push for them to be adopted. If you have or can find a group of like-minded people in your community, you will have more clout. Ask about home schooling if you can't do anything else. Probably teachers, who tend to be "tending, caring" people are of a more liberal bent.

I have to say this is an excellent question. Too many Liberal educators take it upon themselves to poison the young minds of America with their border-line communist ideas.

Well I applaud this question. It is to bad that if you want your children to learn a religious value in school you have to pay for it. What is wrong with teaching both sides of the spectrum in school. Liberal ideas are the only thing taught these days, and protesting everything also. I should not have to pay to have my child taught Christian values if I so choose.
