I work in a hospital. A few years ago, we had a lovely intern from Malaysia as one of our doctors. I became friendly with him because I speak a little Cantonese, which he did, and I also have a Eurasian son. Just before he went home for a short holiday, he asked me if he could bring anything back for me, so I asked him to buy me a piece of jade jewellery. this he did, when he came back, he handed me the box with the jade piece on a gold chain, and I gave him the money. We did this openly, in full view of the unit I work in.
Three days later, my boss called me into her office, and sais to me, "I have no problem with any of my staff having relationships with each other, but I wonder if you could keep the present-giving for each other until you are away from work?"
Oh my god! an innocent transaction, totally taken out of context, and mis-interpreted. And I didn't even have the pleasure of an affair! I couldn't help it, I started to laugh, it was so preposterous; I was old enough to be his GRANNY!
and I don't think she quite believed me!!

When I was in the 8th grade, some girls had spread a rumour about me that I was a lesbian (I'm not) and they even told my homeroom teacher about it and said that they were uncomfortable changing in the same locker room as me. They were bullies and they had teased me all through out the entire year, so my teacher knew they were BSing and didn't bother confronting me about it.

Fortunately none. A "damaged reputation," is much harder to defend, than even a "bad conscience!" - Yes, believe me, in our "practical routine world," it is so, most of the times. Many people have suffered because of damaged reputation, but few have suffered in the practical world for bad conscience. It may be, that the latter category suffers in the "spiritual world," but, frankly, can you count the number of people, who have experiences and knowledge of the spiritual world and can provide "some" evidence to that effect, "recognizable by law?" Also, how many people can genuinely see within some-body else's conscience? Conscience is not written on anyone's face!
