Quarterback is the most difficult position to play in all of sports and it takes a few years just to learn a difficult offense let alone reading the defensive coverages....Now that's without changing offensive coordinators, offensive schemes and head coaches. And it would be nice if you could drop back and pass 60% of the time without having a defensive end sacking you.......
David Carr has proven his toughness, his 1st coach got fired and has had to continually change what their trying to do, and remember the organization has made mistakes also....
A talent like Reggie Bush comes around maybe every decade and you pass on him because you don't want to pay him what he's worth......A player like that draws so much attention that Bush alone would help keep the pass rush off the quarterback because you have to respect the play action pass........!!!!!!!
I think given time and a constant setting Carr will be very effective. Eli has had some of the same problems (growing pains) everyone just assumed he be like Peyton (the exception to the rule) and get everything immediately......
Given time and better support I think both Eli and David will be good NFL quarterbacks......But I would take Carr as my Quarterback.

I would definately take David Carr to play on my team. He played his entire carrer behind the worst excuse for an offensive line ever. He led the NFL in sacks again and when he wasn't sacked he was knocked down. Any QB needs a chance to release the ball. You could put Peyton Manning on the Texans and only see a marginal improvement at best. David Carr has all the tools to be a good QB he just needs an opportunity. I think Carr could be better the Eli only because Eli's Giants gave him better protection, better running backs and great receivers but he did nothing with all those weapons.
If I'm a team with QB issues like Miami, Cleveland, Oakland, Detroit....how can I not consider taking a look at Carr?

David Carr has had 4 years and has proven he is NOT the guy.
I have watched every game either in person or on TV. This guy (Carr) cannot read a defense. If it weren't true don't you think there would be teams, at this very second, knocking down doors to get him ? The NFL has seen what people in football know, that D.Carr is not a starter.
Now, for those who wanna blame the O-Line, yes for the first 2-3 years the O-line was bad but last year they gave up 20 fewer sacks. hmmm ANY NFL QB would be very happy to have that fewer sacks.
It has been estimated that last year, 1/3 of Carr's sacks came from.......... DAVID CARR.
He will not and cannot grasp the idea of checking down to the 2nd or 3rd receiver.
So stop blaming EVERYTHING on the O-line.
Houston was dealt some horrible coaching decisions from the last coach and GM.
One of the biggest mistakes was NOT taking Bush or Young last year.
So in closing, Let's give Schaub a chance because obviously Carr isn't the guy.
If NFL coaches thought Matt Schaub was so bad, those same coaches wouldn't have been trying to get him like so many were.
Good Luck Matt,
See ya David.....

I'm an Eagles fan so I wouldnt' want Carr as a starter because we have McNabb. I would love to have Carr as a backup. There are several teams out there with a weak qb situation that would be lucky to have Carr. I would definitely take Carr over Eli Manning. If Eli Manning ever played for the Eagles that would be the day I stopped being an Eagles fan. Carr has done decently for having no offensive line. Eli Manning is just a whiney little school girl.

I would take Carr. He is actually a really good quarterback. His problem was playing for Houston, who never protected him. With that being said, he was the most accurate passer in the AFC. Sure, he through some picks that brought his rating down, but when you are constant pressure, those things are going to happen. I think Carr would really be a big assett to team that is a short passing possession team. I would take him in KC.
Carr vs. Eli- I would have to go with Eli over Carr, not because of talent, but leadership. I think Eli has more leadership abilities than Carr. I think he can lead a team better.

It depends what team. On most teams, Carr would be a very good back-up. Even if i wouldn't have a quality #1 starter, I would keep him as my backup because my first pick in the NFL draft would be a QB. Troy Smith and Chris Leak aren't listed very high in mock drafts, and I wouldn't hesitate taking one of them as the future QB of my team and use Carr's veteran savvy to mentor them. I would actually choose Eli over Carr, but not as a starter. Eli is under the New York pressure and feels he has a lot to prove being the first overal pick in 04 and being Peyton's brother. If I were the GM of a team in a state with virtually no pressure from the media, I'd take Eli with his potential, and if he doesn't perform, I'd use him as my backup or big trade bait for draft picks or quality players to fill positions I need to be filled.

I didn’t follow him too tough when he was with Houston but I hear behind that offensive line he took a heckuva beating.
I’m not too crazy about stats, but form what I’ve seen of his, I’d take him as a backup with those teams that you mentioned and let him compete for the starting job with a few of the other teams; e.g. Miami; Tampa; the Jets; Cleveland; Oakland.
Especially a team like the Jets that have an excellent core of receivers.
Stay out of Detroit; they aint REALLY tryin to win.
And stay away from the Giants; they’ve settled with Eli and he’s gonna be there probably to the end of his playing days.
Stat-wise, I would definitely give Carr a shot at starting.
Albeit, the Giants have gone to the playoffs with Eli but I think it was more in spite of him and not so much because of him.

I would definetly want Carr on my team if we needed a qb! I have always wondered what that guy could do if he wasnt getting hit 25 times a game... You could put Montana on that team and he would have the same results as Carr! He is still an unproven talent, but I would take him over Eli!

Actually as a Bengals fan I would want him even though Cincinnati has a solid number 1 QB. I don't think David Carr will another starting job that easy, and having an vetern AFC backup would be great for Cincinnati if Palmer ever goes down.

I would rather have David Carr than Eli Manning.
