By voting for the one/s you want to stay, you can't always get all the votes for all the good contestants that should stay. If the worst performer was voted off, it would be more accurate. This leads to some of the better contestants, or mediocre ones leaving way before some of the very worst.

b/c they're more worst singers than there are good singers. And those worst singers make for entertaining television.

That would make no sense. Nobody votes for the worst. We all want the best. That's why we're voting for Sanjaya!
