Cars have tyres with grooves to provide friction

The grooves actually provide friction. Racing tires, for example are completely smooth, to provide the optimum amount of speed without friction. as a result, they are slippery as hell and you could never use them on the road. You must have some friction on car tires, or they will slip and slide all over the road.

theyre there to increase friction cuz otherwise the car wouldnt have a good enough grip in the road and it'd skid.. thats why tyres have to be changed when the grooves wear out

he grooves help the tire grip the road to prevent slipping. Think about the soles of some of your shoes. Since you usually just walk sedately (??) in dress heels, flats, etc., you don't need to traction like you do on sports, so these shoes usually have slick soles. However, most sports shoes usually have grooves in them to help you start and stop quickly. The grooves in shoes and tires can also be compared to to the cleats in football, soccer, baseball, golf, etc. shoes that are needed to gain traction on grass surfaces that usually have "give" to them.
