I just got some from AVG. This stuff is amazing. I had like 12 trojans and over 250 spyware programs on my computer. It was so much fun to watch this thing just blast them away!
Get both the virus free version and the spyware version.
I wouldn't just depend on the free version its best to two or more virus protection services.

Go to CNET.com and in the webpage go to the bottom left for downloads. In that section you will find pay and free protections.
I use AVG and Antiviras AntiVir. They compliment each other and not only eliminate, but, prevent virus infection. Both are free. They update daily, and, can be programmed to run daily. I run one at midnight, the other at noon.
While there consider Adaware, SpyBot, CCleaner as well as others. All are FREE. Beats the hell out of paying for Norton's. Norton allowed my system to crash two years running. The combo above have left my system without problem for two years.

AVG seems to have the market cornered with their free virus protection software. I've been using it myself for a few months and all's been good. They also make regular 'pay' versions, which have better features and whatnot, but when it comes to free anti-virus software, I haven't heard of anything else that ever comes close. You can get it at www.downloads.com
