Twenty carat gold is actually only 83.3% gold, so it's 16.7% "something else". Twenty-four carat gold is 100% gold, so while technically it isn't "edible", you can eat it without harming anything but your bank balance...

24k is the most original form of gold and 20k has other metals added to it, the smaller the karats the more metals added to it.

it is softer I guess and does not contain hardening metals .
