10x-1=9x
10x-1-9x=9x-9x
x-1 = 0
x = 1
x-4 = 8
x-4+4=8+4
x=12
x +(-5) = 9
x +(-5) -(-5) = 9 -(-5) (Remember that when you subtract a negative number, then you change the sign and add because two negatives multiplied make a positive.)
x = 9 + 5
x = 14
