Thank you all. You all have very good advice, even if it differs a little.

I don't know what possessed me to start an aquarium by the seat of my pants. They are the most complex ecostructures I've ever been involved with.

Your advice, knowledge and references make it very hard to choose the best answer to my questions. I would like to have you choose for me but can't figure that out either.

Don't want to offend anyone but I guess I'm just a "Dumb Blonde"

Thanks Again,
Ann

its easy to get confused. People learn slightly different ways of doing the same thing . What works well for one person may not work so well for another .

Try to see whats common in all the answers and try it.

Balancing an aquarium can depend a lot on what your tap water is like . In some places its very pure , in others its very heavy in minerals, with chlorine and flourides in it too.

I used to have a little water filter for the kitchen tap , to filter the tap water in a bucket , and then let it stand for a few hours before using it .
