That depends on what type of online games you want to play. If you are talking about something on GSN and want to play along, you do need a TV to play with them. If you mean like on a computer, then no you don't. On a gaming system, you do if it isn't a handheld type(Then again, you need a TV to play a gaming console in the first place...).
