The best habitat for a snake it the habitat that suits it the best and allows for food' shelter and a place to feel secure. It depends on the type of snake, it's preferred food, and its requirement for safety.

Snakes need heat to digest their food, keep that in mind. They also like to curl up on the bottom of an aquarium or on a branch. You should offer them a place to hide, even people need alone time. If you use a heat lamp, have a 60-75w colored (red) bulb in it, in one end of the cage. Those floods lights they use for outside work well. Some people put a heat pad over the cage, the heat will warm the bottom and they love it. Remember they need a dish (low sides) with water at all times. And don't forget the UV light, you can buy any type of bulb, but they need sun. A window won't do it. The sunlight is too filtered by the time it goes through your window and the glass on the cage, place that at the other end of the cage. I never use a heat rock, the reptiles stay on them to long and will burn themselves.

To create an outside habitat that the particular snake in hand would live in if it was where it thrives best in. I have had turtles and tortoises and have created outdoor habitates that each species loved to live in and then provided the type of foods it liked best. I have desert tortoises and had the only successful breeding pair...because they were where they were comfortable, safe, without intruders, with the best possible diet...oh and dont forget to learn if they hibernate or whatever.
