I am making a new computer and have been wondering whether or not I really need the new "big and bad" processor.

Do I really need the new Intel 2 core processor?
What Intel chip should I get instead?

I play games like Rise of Nations, Halo, Sim city 4, and Flight simulator, I listen to music all the time.

For gaming, the cpu will not make as much difference as you think. http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html
For gaming, it's the video card that is the most important and having enough memory for the game. Usually 2gb of memory these days and the best video card you can afford.

You will notice the video card adds more fps then the cpus. It's according if you're on a budget or not.

Every new generation of microprocessors improves on the previous ones. Some new products however are a significant improvement. That's the case this time as Intel's hit a home run with a processor that's getting rave reviews across the board and blowing away the competition.

A core 2 duo is like having 2 Pentium 4's on one chip running cooler at a higher speed and consuming less power. What's not to love!

Get the Intel Core 2 Duo chip. The P-4 chips are becoming obsolete and the Core 2 Duo is much faster (like having 2 processors) and great for gaming.

It's better to get an amd processor. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 is alot faster at processing than intel core 2 duo. Also a lot cheaper.
AMD= about $800 Intel= about $1000 plus
