My wife was dilated to 7cm with our first for 27 hours. Now that was hard labor. The only two things that will speed the process up is walking and a warm to hot bath but be careful in the tub to watch for your water breaking. If you had an in with the nurse and she was just a little tuff when she checks your dilation this might cause the water to break and out comes baby very soon.

Your already in early labour hunny! Once you get to 5 cm it's classed as established labour! If your contractions haven't started yet, try going for a walk, it will help baby's head to engage in the pelvis. Maybe try hand expressing your breast milk, it releases hormones (prostaglandins) into the body which induce labour, but it can take hours! But mostly make sure you eat and drink plenty, keep your energy up, it sounds like your gonna be needing it real soon! Good luck

Have sex with your partner (the semen will help your cervix become fully effaced), then get to the hospital and walk around the outside and then the inside for an hour or so.
Don't take castor oil, it can cause baby to have a bowel movement in utero and cause lots of other problems. It's not worth the risk.

you are 4-5 cm? that's considered active labor! you are going to be holding that baby in your arms very soon, do alot of walking, that is what they have you do at the hospital if things are progressing slowly.. Here's to a smooth labor and delivery :)
edited after reading some other answers.. NO CASTOR OIL, it can cause distress in the baby, it doesn't happen very often, but not worth the risk, it is suspected that it can cause the baby to have it's first bowel movement while still inside of you and it can swallow some of it and inhale it with it's first breath causing infections and worse

Girl, get up and do as much walking as possible. move around. It will make the baby drop lower. My granny once told me squatting would help too. God bless u and your baby.

Good luck!
