Eye contact, body language, sign, written, open to misinterpretation, but could be the only way to communicate by certain groups. We are using eye contact and body language all the time.

We need to convey our exact meaning to the others exactly and clearly that is the main role of verbal communications (speaking) over using non-verbal communications particularly when we communicate with our partners by using some communication tools, such as phone, Internet messenger, etc. The other emotion and gestures ply a completion role for convey our information to others, so we see most of messenger tools used with many webs, like yahoo, hotmail, etc. add some icons to express emotion but would never able to create a ready peace of speech! Further, the non-verbal communications can be understood and interpreted in some other ways far from the wanted meaning while verbal communications almost give the exact meaning. So we can see in official places, such as courts never use non-verbal communications. Regards.

In a O.T. (Operation Theatre) the surgeon communicates with the nurse in non verbal communication. He never shout or speak asking to give me that or give me this. By seeing the expressions on the masked face of the surgeon, the nurse in charge understands what the surgeon need at any time of the operation.
The plus points are it is great to see the expressions on ones face without speech. It may require lot of observation, and some skill to communicate non verbally. But non verbal communication is very good in several occassions.
A mother can communicate with the children non verbally. For example when they visit a neighbours house, the mother can warn the child non verbally, when the child tries to touch the remote of T.V or a glass astray on the teapoy in that house without any sound by looking into the eyes of the child.
Likewise the children also communicate with their eyes only, with the parents. Lovers can communicate themselves so many things without the knowledge of the nearby standers.
In the hospital you observe that some patients express their unwillingness for medication or injections non verbally. In the presence of a doctor, the nurse also communicate with the patient non verbally.
It is common for the students to communicate non verbally, in the classroom without the knowledge of the teacher.
Those who communicate nonverbally, will be having some unknown bond among the communicator and receiver.
It will be so nice [in this world full of sounds], to communicate non-verbally even for some time in the whole day.
I hope you can expand this data into a fullpage essay on inter persoanal skills.

Body language; a means of expression without using words. You can include in this facial expressions, like smiling , frowning, laughing, nodding, raised eyebrow(s), clear direct gaze. Other non verbal communications could be touch; ie shaking hands, putting your hand on someone's shoulder, an arm around someone. Non verbal communicating can be very powerful; switch off the volume on your telly and try to figure out what is going on in an interview for example; you will be surprised at how much you can work out..
I don't think there would be many weaknesses in body language; the body doesn't lie. Our mouths may be saying one thing - but our bodies are very definitely saying another. Many interviewers know when someone is spoofing about their skills by watching body language.

Body language. If you're talking to someone and they're leaning away from you, chances are they don't agree with what you're saying.
Facial expressions tell most of the story. A frown, an insincere smile, tensed up muscles in the neck, an eye twitch. A nod of approval or a shake of the head in disapproval.
Making eye contact is important. If someone is speaking to you and can't make eye contact or very much of it, they may have something to hide.
Hand gestures are common in some cultures. They say if you tie an Italian's hands together they can't speak.
A handshake is a very important non-verbal form of communication. A weak handshake versus a strong but not too strong handshake is often an indication of character. And the interpretations vary from person to person, sometimes consciously and sometimes unconsciously.

One of the systems we use with autistic children is called Makaton. This is a series of cards with different symbols on them which are expressed in simple line drawings. There are hundreds of these cards which cover many different situations. Many autistic children are non verbal and therefor this helps them to communicate. There is also another form of communication which is non verbal we use this is called BSL, or British Sign Language, although many of them cannot use it. If you look up National Autistic Society you will gather much information about communication skills which are non verbal.

Body language is a real non-verbal communication. Also facial expressions. for example can you imagine someone looking at you with love or with anger? it's lettting you know how the person si feeling..
Also I think sometimes your thoughts or feelings are subconsciuoly picked up by others (eg you avoid certain people becos you know they don't like you).
Telepahy is another way where i think people communicate though their thoughts, I don't exactly know how it works but do know it does exist.
also I think art can be a way of communication. it tells about the artist & what he/she is trying to say. That can be art in painting.

Face (reading expressions) and body language (reading the way a person moves and sits and stands and agitates or not physically) is non-verbal communication... these skills we acquire from infancy... unless, we have Asperger syndrome, or any of the autistic spectrum disorders like it. As my son does.

My thought would be it is body language. We all talk with facial expressions, nods, smiles, winks, frowns, glares, etc. We also use body movements and gestures to speak silently. Good luck.
