I used to just think it was a choice until I took Social Problems but now I think people are born neither straight or gay really. I think being straight is somewhat the more natural thing because of having kids and in our society it's also the norm, but I think your environment can have an affect on a person to be otherwise but I don't think it's a conscious choice either. And yea they have done studies on people's brains but they've also done studies on environmental factors. I would go check my book, but I'm too lazy right now :P

I don't think it's either. It's a complex trait and it has some genetic components, some environmental components before birth, and some environmental components after birth.
No matter what the answer is, though, you can interpret that as either that being gay is okay, or that it is not okay. The deciding factor for me is that being gay doesn't hurt anyone, and it doesn't impair your ability to live well. But trying to fight it just leads to a lot of despair and self-hatred. So, from a health standpoint, it's better to be happy with who you are, gay, straight, or anything else.

I dont think anyone is born gay, rather circumstances in your life may turn a person toward homosexuality.

No one decides to have same sex attractions but they do choose whether or not to act on them.
If it's genetic, then it's an abnormality that could be corrected.
If it's environment, then that too can be corrected just like those who are, for example, sex addicted.
Both are still a state of being with abnormal feelings of attraction.
The debate really is: do we choose to overcome those abnormal feelings of attraction [i.e. like the sex addicted do] or do we choose to succumb to them.
Either way, the 'choice' should be included in the discussion.

It is the way a person is born. I could not choose to be attracted to the sex that I am not attracted to. You just are who you are. There is nothing wrong with that either.

I believe both, because most of the time (not all of the time tho) people are born gay.
But, you will get those few who decide that they don't like wo/men anymore and start to like their own sex.

Thank you.

Some people decide not to act on particular urges, and redefine their bisexuality as heterosexuality, or as homosexuality, or their heterosexuality/homosexuality as celibacy.
But mostly, people are what they are without much decision-making behind it - do you remember when you realized you were straight?
