Zak and ZeroAmbition are correct. This is not a problem that you can simply throw money at and make it go away. Poverty is not the problem. It's the symptom.

The problem is that in poverty stricken countries the populace does not have the freedom to improve their lives.

Their tax burden is too high. After all, Why should I work hard to make an extra $100 if the government is going to take $80 of it?

In contrast, America has the world's lowest tax burden and someone on wellfare here is more likely to have a car, a telephone, a TV, will have more square footage, and eat more meat than the average citizen of Western Europe, which is the second richest place on Earth.

The people of India are among the poorest on the planet. But the Indian immigrant community is the weathiest group in America. Why? Did they suddenly get smart on landing in San Fransisco? No; they got free. They said, "You mean if I work a 12 or 16 hour shift and make all this extra money I get to keep it?" And so that's what they did.

The second problem that causes poverty (and this is the problem in America and Western Europe) is the mentality that the government should take care of you. This mentality results in the government raising taxes to care for people that are too lazy to take care of themselves. And that gets us back to problem number one.

Poverty is relative, it means having less wealth then someone else. The total amount of money in the world is irrelevant, poverty is a question of distribution.

If you want to set a certain goal, like "to provide a 2000 calorie/day diet to everyone who is currently unable to eat one" or "to provide universal treatment for all curable diseases" then someone might be able to come up with a dollar amount for you, but that's far beyond my expertise.

Find out the daily defense budget of America I read the other day that just one day of that money could eliminate poverty in our world.

how long are you looking to eliminate it for? If people are not trained to manage money and plan for the future, no amount of money will keep them from becoming poor again. So are you looking to factor in job training and finance management? or do you just want to klnow how much money you need to give everyone some for awhile?

The number is Zero.

The resources we currently have are plenty to eliminate poverty they just need to be realocated.

It doesn't take money and the existing money does not to be reallocated.
People need freedom to improve their own lives as opposed to politicians and do-gooders constantly trying to save them.
