I myself am married to a native man, live on a reserve, and still wonder about choices. Nothing racial about the question, just curious.

My mother married a Native man, although we didn't live on the Qualla Boundary (I'm Eastern Cherokee.) We lived about two hours from there, in East TN. I guess people choose who they like best regardless---just one of those things.
I honestly think it was because my mother is so light skinned, she liked darker skinned people in general. My stepfather is also very dark, he's Sicilian. She likes olive-skinned men.
