I teach acting to high school students and direct plays. The reason people act is to have those butterflies in the stomach and that sense of nervousness that you obviously get. Channel that into something good, kind of like what tiger woods does on the golf course, he says he is as nervous as anyone, but channels it into an incredible focus. Channel yours into getting into character. try to spend the last half hour before you perform in character, don't be the nervous person playing a part, be the character. Also the greatest remedy for stage fright is knowing your lines inside and out so that it doesn't become an issue for you. when you know your lines really well and are in character other peoples mistakes won't bother you, you can be "in the moment" as they say. good luck

Well, I'll just give the answer I wrote someone else:
This kind of stage fright is caused in part by incorrect breathing. Someone starts getting a little nervous and starts breathing in quick, shallow breaths. This in turn results in lower oxygen level in the blood resulting in breathing faster, etcetera --it's a vicious cycle. Break the cycle by taking slow, deep breaths using the diaphragm. Your stomach, not your chest, should go out when you inhale. Soon the symptoms should resolve.

I have been a lead in all my middle school plays. I definately get nervous too. Im really shy also. If your on a stage take a deep breath before you go on and just pretend like there is no one. Try not to make eye contact very much, because when you make eye contact it makes you even more nervous. It's okay to mess up, but if you do mess up try to fix it by keep on going on with your line.
I hope this helps!!!
Good Luck!!!!

In my opinion, the bigger the audience the easier it is. First of all, don't focus on people. That's the deal. With lights it's easier to just look at them as one big crowd and not a lot of people judging you. Don't focus on anyone particular. Bask in the moment and know that everyone came there to see you. When you avoid the fact that they are judging you and think about they are wanting to enjoy the music as much as you do, that is when you've conquered your fright.

I had this problem too, but I discovered that improv makes it less difficult. try taking an improv class, and playing the games they teach with others.
I did improv at ren fair, and after six years..I can act like a complete moron with full confidence that while I may look odd..I am having fun and entertaining others.
Our motto was dare to suck. If you let go and are unafraid..it will show.

Everyone gets stage fright even (although they rarely admit it) professional actors. Find some way to calm yourself down and use it. Everyone has their own methods, but I find reciting Shakespheare helps me.

Just don't think about it. I perform on stage a far amount ( i am in a musical later today:)) just don't over think it and relax and if you are comfortable with your lines or songs or dances or whatever you have nothing to worry about
