You made that term up: emotional intelligence. It's an oxymoron.

"sine qua non" -- Without that, it would not be.

That claim basically says that leadership can only exist if there is emotional intelligence. And that term is usually referring to the ability of people to interact socially and affect others' emotions.

So, yes, leadership is not possible if people cannot interact socially and cannot affect what others do. But that's like saying you cannot have great oratory without the ability to make sounds or write words. It's so obviously true, it's meaningless.

A good leader knows how to motive people, which requires emotional intelligence. But a good leader must also make wise decisions in the best interests of the group, and those require skills other than mere social aptitude.

I second response number one.

After all, even if your IQ is 177, its not a very smart move to not give a dam* about what others are feeling and thinking, especially if you are in a position where you must rely on others to reach lofty goals.

In fact, even if you have the highest IQ in the world... acting without caring about others and the repercussions your decisions will have upon their lives pretty much negates that great big ol score you won on a standardized test... it makes you pretty freakin stupid after all...
