My sound does not work and when I go to Control Panel and to Sound and Audio Devices, it says there's nothing there. It might because I don't have a Multimedia Audio Controller (whatever that is). Any advice on how to restore sound?

This may be a driver problem. Did you recently re-install Windows?

If not, go to your Device Manager by selecting Start> Settings>Control Panel>System, which will bring up the System Properties dialog box. Select the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager" button about a third of the way down. This will bring up the Device Manager window.

You should see an item for "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" in this list. Expand the tree item by clicking on the little plus sign next to the caption. If there's a warning icon on any of the items, either the hardware has failed or the driver has been corrupted.

If it's the driver, you will need to obtain a new copy of the driver and install it after removing the old driver.
