The best thing to do is talk to your family and get as much info from them as you can. Every town has a genealogy club, join one and they'll help. Online stuff is useless if you don't know what you're looking for. Go to the library, look up birth and death records. Churches and cemetaries also keep records. Your best bet is to join a club.
EDIT - if you really want an online site type "genealogy" in your search window. They'll ask for money and then tell you your ancestors came from French royalty. Don't believe me, see for yourself. Without knowing anything about you I can't suggest a site.
