When the Republicans are in power, there is more poverty, homelessness, and lack of growth in the general populace. They tend to take away the safety nets and their policies tend to benefit business saying this will trickle down. The way things are now, there is no trickle down to the people of the United States. The benefits of giving breaks to business are flooding to foreign countries.
The Democrats tend to reverse this policy, giving people back their safety nets and more opportunities for growth because by the time the Republicans are out of office, the safety nets are doubly needed.
I don't know why its considered Socialism. Do you really want to do away with the middle class? What would you have then? Slavery? A third world country?
Actually, you need both parties for balance even though things become unbalanced for a while.

Socialism, n. "a system of social organization in which the means of production and distribution of goods are controlled collectively."
That obviously could never happen in the U.S. You think it's better to let the billionaires run both the government and the economy.
Liberal, n. "favorable to progress or reform; based on or having views or policies advocating individual freedom of action and expression; pertaining to representational forms of government rather than aristocracies and monarchies; free from prejudice or bigotry...."
Well yes, I can certainly see why you wouldn't want a liberal president.

It all depends how the House and Senate elections go. However I think Hillary will get us there quicker than anyone else. I am still hoping Fred Thompson will throw his hat into the ring and win in a landslide......

Within a year....
Then our economy will crumble, he or she will be Impeached and we will be back on track with a conservative president in 2012.
That is, of course, if you think any Democrat has a chance of winning in 2008.
Clinton-Obama guarantees another 4 years of good leadership from Republicans.

Probably no more quicker than it would fall into a oligarchy if a conservative wins.
