Yep. In 2006 there was a huge storm here in NY. THere was a ton of rain, reall really strong thunder, and the lightning was hitting the ground, no one got hurt though. Thre was sleet everywhere and and the thunder remnindwed me of a bomb. It was awful.

Hail and sleet almost NEVER occur together. Hail is a warm-weather phenomenon and it forms in large cumulonimbus thunderclouds. Sleet forms in cold weather when the ground temperature is a few degrees above freezing (upper 30's or low 40's F) and does not require thunderclouds.
The only time when both hail and sleet fall in the same storm (but not simultaneously) is during the spring or fall when while sleet is falling, a powerful warm front moves in, changing sleet to rain and hail.
Always keep in mind that hail and sleet are two different things.

I live in Tornado Alley, in the upper-midwest portion of the United States. Rainstorms are a fairly common occurence here, for the most part.
I come from a very agricultural area, and rain is absolutely essential to the growing of our crops. If we don't get at least one or two good rainstorms a year, we're in trouble, although the rain doesn't tend to be as steady as it is in the maritime northwest.
You won't often find many people outside during a good driving storm, but I love listening to the rain pelt the windows of my apartment. It's a reminder to me that I am inside, and fairly dry and warm.
Sometimes it becomes a safety issue, and I have to retreat to the basement particularly when a storm has spawned or may spawn a tornado. I have yet to see a tornado level houses in my hometown, although over the years, it has happened closeby.
