I understand that to most christians, if not all, this world is not their real 'home'. However, it's kind of disturbing if most of them don't care. Seems like it might lead to some of them being careless in dumping toxic waste, littering, etc.. Sorry, I don't mean to diss the christians, I just wanted to ask, and any thoughtful answers are welcome. Here's an interesting link to someone's opinion on the movie, The Last Mimzy. Kind of why I posed this question.

Well, seems I read it wrong, which is thankful. Hopefully most christians are this way, but I will leave the question, because I'm still interested in what people have to say.

well, as a Christian, i see that most Christians really suck at being a "good person" both in a secular way and in regards to the whole point of Christianity.
that just reflects our human nature.... and imperfection...
though, i as a very LIBERAL and EDUCATED Christian, i am appalled at the complete ignorance among other Christians in regards to the beautiful planet created for us. it is out of respect for God for us to take care of the place where we live. we need to keep it beautiful and be respectful of the planet for our future children and the God who created it for us.

Pollution of any sort is a concern for us all. I am a Christian and I believe in recycling and proper diposal of things like used engine oil. I have never seen The Last Mimzy so I don't know what reference there is in that. However movies and media are based on peoples opinions that are not necessarily factual.

That's not true that Christians don't care about the planet!!! it is true that this is not our real home yet God has given us the world to take care of. Just like my body it is not going to live forever but that does not mean I can abuse it. With drugs, gluttony, sexual perversions, etc... We are to protect what we are given. Some people don't understand that to be a Christian means to be and walk as Christ did. He would never condone hurting the plant; In addition, just because people say they are Christian does not mean that they are! You especially have to be smart if they say they are a Christian and are hurting the planet then clearly they are not a Christian!!!

I don't think this has got to do with any religion, but it is plain ignorance and lack of common sense. I am a Hindu and a few Hindus don't care about it either or atleast aren't trying to do anything about it. Not paying attention to global warming is all related to $$$, cuz there is lot of $$$ involved in researching the alternatives to bring down global warming and the oil companies get directly affected where politicians have a keen interest. It is all political and corporate greed that has led us to such a situation. It is only the common man, who is getting concerned.

The whole thing is the great commission, and in it, Jesus told Christians to make Christians of all nations, so most Christians want to carry out that order, but there are some who view it as you first stated. They only hold Christianity as "fire insurance" and don't care a thing about other people. There are some people like that in the world, but the majority of Christians want to carry out the Great Commission.

Those that call themselves Christians are such a large and diverse group, that it is impossible to pigeon hole them as a whole on what they believe or do.
There are a lot of Christians and there are Christian leaders that believe that it is part of their mandate from God to be good stewards of the Earth. This would include nature also.

I am a Christian and I care. I try to do what I can to help. The church I attend has adopted a street and we are responsible for keeping it clean and have regular clean up days. As an individual, you can only do so much.
