I was born in Germany and live here untill i was 5, then I moved to the US. I forgot most of my German but really want to get back in touch with my German relatives and just my own heritage. I was thinking of moving back and trying to go to school for a little while. I can only speak a little German but the life there is much different then it is here. What could i do to prepare for this? Do you think this would be a good experience or just a frustrating/confusing one? Thanks

I posted this question twice....the question should read.... Has anyone ever lived somewhere where you cant really speak the language?

But yahoo keeps changing the word "cant" to "could"

Sorry about that

I think it would be an awesome experience. If you are immersed in the language, it will quickly come back to you. DO IT!!

same with me! I was born here in the U.S but I lived in Pakistan until I was 4, then i moved back here. While I lived there, I spoke the language so perfectly but I forgot all of it when I came here. I still understand it but its hard for me to speak it. And all the time I want to go back and get in touch with my culture again. In your situation, I think you should go back to Germany if you have the chance! That would be an amazing experience. I mean, it will be hard since you have to get fully in touch with your culture again, the language, the way of life etc. but its a truly rewarding and worthwhile thing to do for yourself. Well, have fun and good luck =)

When you are in a country, and don't know the language, you have no choice but to learn how to communicate, it is very easy.
