I am starting my first disseratation and do not know where to start. The topic I have been given is childhood and adolesence and I have to incorporate sociology and psychology topics. I am a child of mixed race and I thought this would be a good topic to concentrate on so I am looking at identity in particular. My title is "A personal and social perspective of the New Race" What next, I am completely bewildered and it needs to be in by the end of May, Please help point me in the right direction!

Perhaps look on the site, and see the topics that are being raised, it may help you with your topic. There is a student section, so you can post your questionnaire in there to help you..

In terms of the actual write up, contact your tutor ASAP before he/she disappears at Easter.. jot down some ideas, chapter ending, theories you plan to use etc, and see what they think...

Look in the library for a book in 'research methods'.. it should help with the topics and layout... and structuring your dissertation..

Your tutors should have provided you with the tools you need to do this. Don't panic, do some research on 'google', there are loads of sites giving advice or suggesting plans. Have some kind of a 'project management' timetable to work to.

Good luck.

Figure out what are the main goals you want to get across in your dissertation and work backwards. It'll all fall in place. And don't panic about it.
