There are many ways in which animals are classified. All animals are classified according to certain attributes. All animals are classified in the taxonomic hierarchy, which goes in the order:
Kingdom
Phylum
Class
Order
Family
Genus
Species
But animals can also be classified in a more general way, for example, a wolf is classified as a carnivore, based on what it eats, a mole is classified as a fossorial animal, because it lives underground, a fish is aquatic, and a squirrel is arboreal... so as you can see, animals can be classified in many different ways, but it depends on the context that you mean.
I hope this answers your question!
