I've asked my gyne and also my derma to prescribe a birth control pill for me. But it's not for birth control purposes. I've read from somewhere that it helps to control acne breakouts. I've had problems with acne, especially during my pre menstrual cycle. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

Be thankful they don't give it to you! A gyn put me on the pill at age 12 because I couldn't stop bleeding and now (age 34, cannot have children because of the 20 years on the pill)....

AGREE with poster above...do Tea Tree Oil or something natural.

Messing with your hormones will mess with you all your life.

Well birth control pills are meant for that purpose primaryl. Birth Control. Any side effects are just that. There is no guarantee that the "pill" would help with your acne. They are probably trying other methods that are specific for your condition first. If not, you can always seek another opinion from a different doctor.
Remember that the pill is a hormone. It's never a good idea to take a medication that is not specifically designed for your condition. Talk with your health care provider.

I totally agree. You won't get ANY real doctor to prescribe you something that you intend to use for another purpose. There are too many risks with bc simply using it as protection against pregnancy. You can't tell a doctor that you want to use a prescription med for something other than what it's supposed to be used for. You'll never get it that way.

Using the pill for acne is, in my opinion,a bad move. They can cause havoc with your menstrual flow. Get a natural product like tea tree if you can.

It really depends on your age if they will give it to you or not. You can't be on the pill for a long period of time, it is not good for your health.
