My McAfee virus scan found two suspicious programs:

C:\HP\BIN\KILLWIND.EXE

C:\SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION\_RESTORE{followed by a whole bunch of letters and numbers}.EXE

I removed the programs because I didn't recognize them. Are they spyware or malware? Or are they good programs that I should restore?

KillWind is not a virus or trojan. It is an HP support program that you don't really need. You are not missing anything.

The other suspicious file, I truly think could be spyware or worse. I would not lose sleep over deleting it.

Now KILLWIND is something you should worry over and try to restore. This is due to McAfee being wrong again McAfee works terribly but is still popular but how? Now the other one is the system checker. This means you can check your hard driver for errros and fix them or restore alot of lost data due to virus or other horrible software. In my opinion I would restore both and ignore it when McAfee cliams they are viruses. Don't worry about them you can without either of them but I would recommend restoring them.

Killwind.exe appears to be a utility that HP shipped on some systems. It is part of their BackWeb software. Software that allows their tech's to call into your machine when you have a problem and try to fix it (under warranty).

McAfee seems to find it as a virus.

This is not a virus - just McAfee giving false reading.
