Okay, here goes my small dilemna. I applied to three different graduate schools, which I will respectively call A, B and C. School C was the sure thing and it was. I was accepted there. Schools A and B have not given me a decision yet. I called School A and they said they made offers to students already and were waiting upon their decisions before sending out additional offers (i.e. not offered to me but there is the smallest possibility I am on the waiting list) and School B, the receptionist said that all she could tell me was the committee still had my application. Here is my problem, I have to apply for housing and etc if I choose to go to School C (the sure thing) and I need to do that ASAP. So should I wait for the other schools before I make my decision or just accept School C's offer since there are certain factors that are time sensitive? School A and B are both competitive schools. Thanks in advance!

I would think you could take a couple more weeks, and it may be worth the wait. The deadline for decisions is, unless they've told you otherwise, April 15. If the other students wait until then to turn down A and B, you're stuck. But some places will continue to make offers to waitlisted students almost to the last minute (I know some people who found out at the very end of March last year), and if they have not told you that you are not accepted, then it probably means you're high enough on the wait list that you have a chance.

I wouldn't worry too much about housing. You have all summer to find an apartment. I'm sure School C is putting pressure on you to decide now, but you really should go to the best school you can.

Which school do you want to go to the most? If it's A or B, then weight out the options; what would/could happen if you wait to hear from those other schools? Would that affect your being able to start on time at school C? Are you able to apply and sign up for housing now, and when/if you find out you get accpeted into either A or B, are you able to cancel school C without loosing money? If so, try that.

I don't know all that much about grad school applications since still an undergrad, but I know that when I applied to MSU, it took 6 months until I had gotten my acceptance letter. It took a while, but it was definitly worth it. Talk to advisors and the admissions office to the schools and see if they have any suggestions about the topic and if you sign up for housing now, are you able to cancel it. Hope this helps some. Good luck

Wait.

The Council on Graduate Education's guidelines (which most graduate programs follow) provide for an April 15 notification deadline. You will hear from all programs by then.

If school A is pressuring you to commit in any way, speak to the Director of Graduate Studies in your department, and tell him or her that you cannot make an informed decision until you hear from schools B and C.

Also, speak to The Graduate School (the administrative office) at school A, and tell them the same thing.

This is all you need do.

I wish you success in grad school!

Go with school C then if B or A give you an offer take it. The only downfall is you lose the money. That what I did I got into C but later got into B. I lost the deposit but it was much better that I had the assurance of a spot. Assuming you can financially afford it. I would say do it.
