Most often no we don't. I think in some cases some people are aware or have a fairly clear understanding of certain aspects of their main purpose or minor purposes. A life here is not about one specific purpose, it entails millions of them!!!
Just as an example:
How many people do you think might see/read this? In how many ways would your question and my answer effect the thoughts of all those people? Each aspect of that would be an effect or purpose of your life and mine existing here now. We're not aware of what those results might be.... The same holds true with most all facets of each persons life experience here.

We are. We exist. The earth exists. What makes you think there is a reason? Aren't you just incredibly amazed when you wake up every morning? Why do you need a purpose? This is an invalid question. The purpose of life is that life has purpose. Just BE.

I think that for one to truly understand the meaning of our own existence is to have the power that no mortal can understand. Perhaps, when we lay at the foot of Death's door the answer becomes clear. Thus, when that one person passes they become one with the greater world, when we become a part of something greater than we can imagine. We are all pieces of the puzzle of truth and when we become one with the world around us the picture of that puzzle becomes clear. Perhaps we only seek an answer to a world and a life that in itself has no answer, where we can decide why we exists. Only a god or one who has complete understanding of this world can answer this question truly. We are merely the current actors on the stage of existence, and some day a new cast will arise and we must leave.

our life is like a hand put in a bowl of water the world is the water and the universe our bowl .as we live we shake and spill the world up and it is gone from the bowl, universe .it is our path that should cause very little water to spill and if done right we are born [the hand is put in the water ]we live [ the hand shakes] we die[ our hand is removed from the water] if we lived right the universe [bowl] well get fuller with our life in it and when we leave the world well be as it was when you came have had nothing removed from it by your living

Purpose? Only this is assured, To survive that me might procreate and thereby shift our DNA a little further along in time. All else is wild speculation.

I think not. My own philosophy is that we were put here to learn to love. Nothing else. And if you can't learn to love and forgive everyone, regardless of color, creed, deed, then you have failed your purpose (and maybe have to do it all over again ad nauseum?) And be good selfless stewards of the creation? I dunno but then again I fear that I'm a "young soul"and will have many more incarnations to come. And since I might change my philosophy tomorrow what I have written is worthless.
