There is a way to avoid paying big money. With the diesel prices being so high, companies are losing truckers. Some companies send you to school if you agree to work for them for x amount of time. Before you pay, look around and see what companies offer that.

No, there is'nt. You'll have to pass a walk around/ vehicle inspection, road test, and have a DOT medical card at the time of testing. It depends alot on the class of CDL you're trying for, but if I were you I'd go with a Class A (up to 80,000 lbs combination vehicle.) You'll also have to pass the test on air brakes. If you plan on going for Haz-Mat, plan on being electronically finger printed by the Homeland Security/TSA. There are alot of new rules coming into play, study hard!
If you plan on going on the road, there are several companies willing to train you in exchange for a predetermined cost/length of service agreement. If you need it for a job you already have, learn about the truck in question, and you can get a CDL learners permit to train on it. Your boss should let you use it for testing. Hope this helps, Good luck!

You need to study the drivers manual, take the test, and have a loaner truck to take your driving test.
